The New Font
This Easter our dreams
for a new Font come true
with the installation of
a great Asian copper
bowl, a bowl like a
Buddhist or Hindu temple
gong hollowed out and
hammered into shape.
Containing a significant
amount of fresh water,
this new font reminds us
that life begins for us
who are 90% water
swimming silently in our
mother’s womb. In this
great parched south land
of the Holy Spirit,
these welcoming waters
sing of thirst quenched,
the thirst unto death of
all living creatures.
In a time of global
warming and climate
change, this font also
charges us with
responsibility for this
and future generations,
especially for the
poorest of the poor who
suffer most as a result
of human greed. How
fortunate we are in Bob
Whittle, who has
lovingly crafted altar
and lectern and font for
us with his usual
commitment to detail and
quality workmanship.
The font is Irene and
Bob’s Easter gift to us,
and we are very
grateful. In baptism we
die and rise with
Christ, grafted into the
true vine and birthed
into the catholic Church
as daughters and sons of
the christlike God.

The Gracious Table
Our parish recipe

$25.00.
Grace Church has asked its parish members to contribute one or two favourite recipes towards the creation of a Parish Recipe Book. Margaret Price has collated the recipes and prepared them into a delightful book that contain a brief note about the provenance of each favourite recipe, and something about why that particular parish member likes to cook and enjoy serving it.
The book contains a selection of recipes submitted by
parishioners in various sections including soups, finger foods, main courses, desserts, cakes, biscuits and slices, and hopefully some handy hints. The idea came about because we have many very good cooks in the parish and morning teas and other social get togethers have generally been pretty special because of the spreads we put on (some churches just have tea and biscuits), so we decided to publish some of the recipes, especially those that many people comment on.
Once completed, there will be a launch with various examples of the dishes that are featured in the book for sampling. Here is one of Margaret's own favourite recipes that will appear in the book just to get your mouth watering...
EASY CHEESY QUICHE
Ingredients
4 eggs, beaten
Onion, finely chopped (or onion flakes)
Most of a small carton of whipping cream
Cheese, grated, tasty is best
Chopped ham (optional)
Pepper to taste
Pastry base
150g self-raising flour
75g butter
Water to mix.
Method
Prepare pastry by rubbing butter into flour and mixing to a firm dough with the water. Line a pie plate or rectangular Lamington tin with the pastry. Combine quiche ingredients adding enough cheese until the mixture is thick. Pour into the uncooked pastry shell and bake in a moderate oven, about 200 deg C until quiche is lightly browned and set.

Cook’s comment: This is very popular for morning tea at Grace Church and is my most asked for recipe. The secret is the cheese – the tastier the better.
