Projects
Here are some of the
activities our church is
involved in:
The New Grace Church
Towards the end of 2008,
the Diocese of Perth and
Perth Radiology agreed
to initiate a $21m
development at the
corner of Grand
Boulevard and Shenton
Avenue in the heart of
Joondalup.
When the Diocese of
Perth acquired this land
over a decade ago, the
plan was to build a
great church here. Grace
House, the office block
in which Grace Church
has been sheltering all
these years, was
envisaged as stage one
of what would eventually
be Grace Cathedral
Joondalup. Obviously,
this dream of Archbishop
Peter Carnley never
eventuated – at least in
its original plan.
The
new plan is for large
community church
positioned at the
intersection of Grand
Boulevard and Shenton
Avenue, with Joondalup
Law Courts on one side
and Joondalup Health
Campus on the other.
This Church is provided
with offices, meeting
rooms and other
facilities, together
with an enclosed
courtyard. Along Shenton
Avenue, from Grand
Boulevard through to
Joondalup Walk, two
floors of special
medical suites will be
provided, with a café at
the corner of Shenton
Avenue and Joondalup
Walk. Grace House will
continue to house Kinway
(the
relationships/counselling
arm of Anglicare), and
other commercial
tenants. Several levels
for car-parking will be
located below these
buildings.
Architects for this
project are Meyer
Shircore of Subiaco.
Church Council is
currently discussing
furnishings and fittings
for the new building
with design consultants.
These include the three
principal liturgical
items for the church
itself – altar, font,
and lectern. We are also
discussing wall
finishes, floor
coverings, lighting and
plumbing for the whole
building – everything
from door knobs to
teaspoons!
The
time line for this
exciting project is an
early 2010 start with a
mid 2011 finish.
At
this stage we expect the
Archbishop of Perth to
open and consecrate the
new Grace Church
Joondalup at 12 Noon on
the Feast of Christ the
King, 21 November 2011.
