Christmas Star
Why is the church full
of Christmas stars? The
star which appears only
in the Gospel according
to Matthew links us with
St John’s vision of the
incarnation or
embodiment of God in
Jesus Christ as Light
coming into the world’s
darkness – illumination
and enlightenment,
opening our eyes to the
gentleness and
loveliness of God with
us, God whose proper
name is Emmanuel.
Anglicare and St Bart’s
Thank you for your
generosity in making up
Anglicare
Christmas Hampers, and
providing toiletries for
homeless men through St
Bartholomew’s House.
Christmas Flowers
Thank
you to those who have
given flowers in memory
of someone they love, or
in thanksgiving for
blessings received.
Diane Louise Heath,
Priest
The Mass of the
Resurrection for Mother
Diane at St
David’s Applecross was
well attended by friends
from many areas of
diocesan life.

Explore Christ
Synod passed a
motion supporting
ExploreChrist.org - a
Christian community and
place of belonging for
those unable to attend
church, Anglican by
foundation, yet open to
anyone, anywhere, who
wishes to belong.
This may help all of us
from time to time, or
you might recommend to
house-bound or
hospitalised friends.
Together in Song
Thanks to many generous
gifts, and courtesy of
the Church of the
Resurrection in
Swanbourne, we now have
70 copies of the
Australian hymn book,
Together in Song. If
you have not yet had a
chance to give your
promised contribution to
the treasurer, please
see Sandi today.
Joondalup Joint Venture
Progress on the
Joondalup Joint Venture
and the new Grace Church
is now proceeding
rapidly, with obvious
changes week by week,
and very soon we will
actually be above ground
level! After meticulous
and very slow work on
foundations,
particularly the
radiation bunkers
required by PRC, we
expect to see the
building taking shape
around us before
Christmas. The
Consecration date for
the new church 25
November 2012 at 2pm,
the Feast of Christ the
King, but we hope to
move in long before that
great day.
Sanctuary Gong
In addition to our
elegant new Book of the
Gospels, the new gold
and silver chalice, and
the bell we have
inherited from Holy
Family Yokine, we have
also acquired a
sanctuary gong which
probably belonged
originally to St Paul’s
Carr Street in West
Perth, a famous Anglican
Catholic shrine until
its closure in the
1940s. The sanctuary
gong is traditionally
used at the sanctus
(holy, holy, holy Lord),
at the elevation of the
sacrament at the end of
the Eucharistic prayer,
and as an invitation to
Holy Communion.
Bell, Book and …
Chalice!
Thanks to the
generosity of an
anonymous donor we have
an elegant new Book of
the Gospels to enhance
the beauty of our
worship. Thanks to
another anonymous donor
we have a new gold and
silver chalice to match
one we have had for the
past ten years. Some
time ago, some interest
was expressed in
acquiring a bell for the
new church, a very
valuable item in terms
both of cost and use.
The good news is that we
have just been given a
fine bell from the
closed Church of the
Holy Family in Yokine.
Liturgical Ministers
Fr David is pleased
to announce the
appointment of Barry
Simpson as a Liturgical
Minister, in addition to
Naomi Fitzgerald, Allan
Griffiths, Helen Matuzik,
Michael Price, and Irene
Saint-Whittle. A
workshop for all six
Liturgical Ministers is
scheduled for4-5pm on
Saturday 9 April.
Sacrament of
Reconciliation
The Anglican
approach to this
sacrament of owning up
to our sins in the
hearing of a priest who
gives counsel and
declares God’s
forgiveness is summed up
in the phrase, ‘All may,
none must, some should.’
Please speak with Fr
David about confession
times.
New Church Rising
A permanent home for
Grace Church will soon
be rising from the sand,
part of a $20 million
joint project between
the Diocese of Perth and
Perth Radiological
Clinic. On the vacant
block on the south side
of the church Perth
Clinic plans on building
a seven-storey hospital.
