Candlemass
The Presentation of
Christ in the Temple,
otherwise known as
Candlemass, falls this
coming Thursday 2
February, although we
transfer the celebration
to next Sunday.
Candlemass brings to an
end the
Christmas-Epiphany cycle
of the Christian Year,
and the Sundays after it
are styled ‘Sundays
before Lent.’
On the Last Sunday
before Lent we empty the
Font and burn last
year’s palm crosses to
make the ashes for Ash
Wednesday First Day of Lent
Lent 2012 begins on Ash
Wednesday, 22 February,
with the Blessing and
Imposition of Ashes and
Solemn Eucharist at 7pm.
