Easter

The Easter Triduum is simply the beginning of Easter time, for the festival lasts fully fifty days until the Day of Pentecost. Throughout this time, the principal sign of the crucified and raised Christ in our midst is the Paschal Candle blessed in the darkness just before dawn on Easter Day. 

The great candle is marked with the blood-red cross of sacrifice, and also bears the marks of the passion – the five wounds of love as five brass nails containing incense. The Greek letters Alpha (A) and Omega (W), together with the numerals of this current year of grace 2009, proclaim the truth that God is Christlike from beginning to end, that in God there is no un-Christ-likeness at all.
